Monumize vs inscription-matching services for final dates

When a stone needs its final date, a shop has four common ways to get the stencil. Here is what each costs and how long it takes, with prices as listed on each company’s site on October 8, 2026.

Monumize

Software: you photograph the stone, Monumize reads the dates and suggests the closest lettering style, and you download to-scale cut files for your own cutter.

Monument Lettering Center

Inscription Matching Service: you send the stone details and their team matches the lettering and emails you the files.

Monumize may suit you if

  • You own a vinyl or stencil cutter and want the file today, not in a few days
  • You add final dates often enough that per-job price and speed add up
  • A close lettering match from open-licensed styles is good enough for the stone
  • You want to see the new date on a photo of the stone before cutting anything

A matching service may suit you better if

  • You need an exact match to a proprietary or hand-drawn monument font
  • You’d rather have a person do the matching for you
  • The job also needs a new name or a full layout, not just a date

A mailed stencil may be simpler if

  • You don’t own a cutter
  • A few days for delivery fits your schedule

Doing it in house may suit you if

  • Your team already lays out dates quickly in OMEGA or Monu-Cad
  • You need fonts that only your own software has

Try it on your next final date

Your first job is free, with no card needed. Photograph the stone, check the new date on your photo, and download the cut files. Rather see it first? We’ll walk you through a real stone in 15 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

Is Monumize an inscription-matching service?
No. It is software your shop uses. You take a phone photo of the stone, Monumize reads the existing dates and suggests the closest lettering style, and you download the cut files yourself. No one at Monumize redraws your stone by hand.
Will the lettering match exactly?
Not always. Monumize suggests the closest of 22 open-licensed monument lettering styles. Many stones are cut in proprietary or hand-drawn fonts we don’t have, so the match may only be close. Check the preview on your photo before cutting.
What does a final-date stencil cost with each option?
As listed on their sites on October 8, 2026: Monument Lettering Center charges $57.99 for a single death date (2–4 business days, files by email); Design Mart’s pre-cut stencils start at a $25 minimum plus postage (about $15.50 by Priority Mail). Monumize is $49 per job plus sales tax, and your first job is free.
I don’t have a cutter. Can I still use Monumize?
You’d need someone to cut the stencil from the file. If you don’t own a cutter, a mailed pre-cut stencil may be the simpler choice.
