What makes the DXF Gerber-ready

Sign software is picky about DXF. These are the details that decide whether a file imports cleanly or needs an hour of cleanup.

  • R12 (AC1009) DXF

    The oldest, most widely read DXF flavor. OMEGA and most sign software import it without conversion dialogs or missing entities.

  • True arcs, not tiny segments

    Curves are written as arc bulges on closed POLYLINE outlines, so letters cut smooth instead of faceted, and files stay small.

  • Closed outlines, counters kept

    Every letter is a closed shape with its counters (the holes in O, A, R) intact, so weeding and blasting behave as expected.

  • No live text or fonts

    The lettering is already outlined. Nothing depends on a font being installed on the plotter PC, so nothing shifts on import.

  • 1:1 in inches

    Cropped to the new line at true size. R12 has no units header, so the file name says “inches”; import at 100% scale.

  • Matched to the stone

    Font, letter height and spacing are matched to the lettering already on the stone from your photo before the file is made.

From photo to OMEGA in five steps

    Photograph the stone

    Take one straight-on phone photo of the headstone, enter its width and height, and set the four corners of the polished face.

    Match and type the new date

    Pick the date already on the stone. Monumize matches its font, height and spacing; type the new date and check it on your photo.

    Download the DXF for Gerber

    Pay $49 for the job and download the R12 DXF made for Gerber OMEGA, along with EPS, PDF, PLT and SVG versions of the same outline.

    Import into OMEGA at 100%

    Import the DXF into OMEGA as you would any vector file, in inches at 100% scale (menu names vary a little between OMEGA versions).

    Cut the stencil and blast

    Send the outline to your plotter, weed and apply the stencil using the placement sheet, and sandblast on site as usual.

Does Monumize work with Gerber OMEGA?
Yes. The main download is an R12 DXF written for Gerber OMEGA and sign software: closed outlines with true arcs, no splines and no live text, at 1:1 in inches. Download the free sample and import it on your own machine before you run a job.
Why does the DXF version matter?
Newer DXF versions can carry splines, ellipses and other entities that older sign software imports poorly or approximates with jagged segments. R12 with arc bulges is the format OMEGA, Graphtec Cutting Master, FlexiSIGN and SignLab read most reliably.
Is the DXF in inches or millimeters?
Inches. R12 files cannot store a units header, so the file name says “inches” and you import at 100% scale. The separate CAD DXF (R2010) sets its units to inches explicitly.
Can I edit the lettering in OMEGA after import?
Yes. The letters are ordinary closed vector outlines, so you can move, space, weld or offset them like any other artwork. Most shops cut them as delivered because size and spacing are already matched to the stone.
What if my shop uses different software?
Every job also includes an EPS for Illustrator or CorelDRAW (and Cutting Master plug-ins), a PLT (HP-GL) for cutters that take it directly, an SVG, a 1:1 PDF and a CAD DXF with units set.
How much does a Gerber-ready file cost?
$49 per job, plus sales tax where it applies. That covers every format for that stone, including re-generated files if you change the date or spacing.
